Meet Ka’Dajah.
Ka’Dajah is a bright 12-year-old who loves school, making jewelry and aspires to be a doctor or lawyer.
Ka’Dajah’s family found themselves in unfortunate circumstances, and mostly recently, homeless. While staying at the Center for the Homeless in South Bend, the staff there, including our own JK, learned of Ka’Dajah’s dream of attending the prestigious Culver Military Academy.
So Ka’Dajah and staff at the Center worked hard on an application to Culver’s Summer Camp, hoping to get her a scholarship to attend this year, and looking further, a shot at attending high school there. Larry Swank, a great supporter of the Center and Culver Alum, also wrote a very a heartful letter on her behalf.
This photo above is of Ka’Dajah’s reaction the day she got word that Culver awarded her a very rare full ride to the 6-week summer camp!
From JK: “She actually couldn’t believe it at first - then it sunk in a little and she just beamed from ear to ear. We are so very happy for her. She deserves every ounce of it. Look at the joy in her face!! I had to share it. I just pray that this is what takes her out of the cycle of homelessness and into a life of opportunity.”
Ka’Dajah received a scholarship to attend camp, but that won’t cover everything, including her uniform and other expenses. look furtHER immediately saw the way we could begin to make a difference, one person at a time.
With Ka’Dajah’s help and expertise, we have rolled up our sleeves and started to make bracelets. We are selling these for a recommended $10 donation. All proceeds will go towards Ka’Dajah’s summer camp expenses.
